Katie Shaddix Cahaba River Society Communications ManagerKatie Robertson Shaddix manages the Cahaba River Society’s Web and print communications, handles administrative logistics, assists with financial management, maintains the membership database, and assists with event planning and public outreach. She also serves as Co-Chair of Cahaba River Society’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee, which works to ensure that every aspect of our work is driven by our conviction that every person has the birthright to clean water and to nature, no matter their circumstances or identity.

Katie is an Alabama native who has spent her entire life in and around Alabama waterways, learning to swim in rivers before she could walk around them. She grew up in the Cahaba watershed and has been canoeing and kayaking in rivers across the southeast since the age of 9.

She holds a Bachelors of Arts in English from the University of Montevallo and an Master of Arts in English Composition and Rhetoric from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

She is passionate about helping people, animals, and the environment. She has previously worked as the Development and Communications Coordinator for the Alabama Rivers Alliance and Director of Marketing for the Greater Birmingham Humane Society, and is an active volunteer for numerous environmental and animal-related nonprofits. She lives on Ruffner Mountain in Birmingham with her husband, daughter, and a small menagerie of pets and foster animals. In her spare time, she enjoys being in nature and on the water as possible.
