Volunteers help keep the Cahaba River clean, restore native ecosystems, and help Cahaba River Society numerous ways. We have volunteer opportunities for people with all kinds of skills and abilities.
The Cahaba River picks up a lot of trash as it flows through parks and populated areas. River clean-up projects remove trash from the river to protect at-risk species and ecosystems.
Invasive species like taro, kudzu, and Chinese parasol trees crowd out native species and threaten river ecosystems. They are a primary threat to 139 rare or imperiled species in the Cahaba River.
Invasive species removal is most effective when native habitats are restored. Native species create a more resilient ecosystem. A healthy riparian forest absorbs runoff during storms and limits the flooding that is increasingly common.
