Anthony Overton, PhD - Cahaba River Society


Anthony is Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences at Samford University. He is also the Director of the Masters of Sciences Program in Environmental Health, Policy, and Management at Samford University. He came to Samford from Alabama A&M University, where he served for the previous three years as Professor and Chair of the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences. He served as Professor of Biology at East Carolina University from 2003-2014.

Dr. Overton has published extensively in the field of fisheries and fisheries management and has served as principal investigator or co-investigator on ten different state and federal grant-funded research projects.

He holds a Ph.D. (Marine Estuarine and Environmental Sciences) from University of Maryland Eastern Shore and a M.S. (Fisheries Management-Forest Resources) from the University of Georgia.

He is engaged in Environmental Health and Sustainability research in Aquatic Studies and is a certified Fisheries Biologist. Anthony brings a wealth of experience on environmental issues. He is an avid outdoorsman and is  passionate about preserving the environment for future generations.
