How to Plan Your Field Trip

We depend on the teachers and group leaders who schedule CLEAN Environmental Education experiences for their groups. We appreciate everything you do and want to make the process as easy as possible. Planning Your Trip 

Step 1: Schedule Your Trip

To schedule an experience for your class, fill out this form or contact Education Director La’Tanya Scott at (205) 322-5326, extension 413, or [email protected]. 

Step 2: Sign Waiver and Photo Release

All participants must have a signed waiver and photo release. Download our waiver and photo release. Have parents fill this form out and sign it. Please collect all signed forms and bring them on your trip. You can also mail them at least 2 weeks prior to your trip to Cahaba River Society, Attn: La’Tanya Scott, 2717 7th Ave South, Suite 205, Birmingham, AL 35233. 

Step 3: Prepare Your Students (and their Parents) for the Trip

Participants should wear clothes they don’t mind getting wet. This includes closed-toe shoes. No one will enter the river barefoot or without closed-toe shoes. We suggest bringing one pair of shoes that can get wet and a dry pair to change into after the river experience. 

Participants will also need a water bottle with at least 1 liter of drinking water and a brown bag lunch. 

Step 4: Confirm the Trip 24-48 Hours in Advance

Since weather conditions and other factors affect hands-on activities at the river, we confirm every trip 24-48 hours in advance. Please respond or email [email protected] to confirm your trip. 

Step 5: Meet us at the River

Your precise meeting location and address will be provided to group leaders 1 day prior to your trip. 

CLEAN Stream Walk groups in the Birmingham area usually meet at the Little Cahaba River near the Colonnade off of Highway 280. Take Cahaba Heights Road and turn onto Sicard Hollow Road. Then turn right onto Cahaba Beach Road. 

Step 6: Pay for your Trip

Cahaba River Society will send an invoice at the conclusion of your trip based on the actual number of participants. You can pay with a check made payable to Cahaba River Society or cash. An option for paying with a credit card is available upon request.
